Licence Comparison
Licence Types at MiraFeld
MiraFeld offers three main Exclusive Licence types for: Personal, Business, and Merchandise usage.
Original physical artworks usually come with an Exclusive Personal Licence by default, giving you exclusive personal rights to that specific original piece. Standard prints are the exception and come with a Non-Exclusive Personal Usage Licence, meaning they are for personal use only and the same artwork may also be sold to other customers.
Unless stated otherwise, MiraFeld licences are exclusive, non-transferable, and non-sublicensable, while the artwork itself always remains the intellectual property of MiraFeld.
Exclusive Personal Usage Licence
This licence is for individuals who want a design for themselves only. It allows personal, non‑commercial use (for example, tattoos, home décor, or personal items).
You cannot resell, reproduce for sale, mass‑produce, or use the artwork for any business or profit‑making activity
Exclusive Business Usage Licence
This licence is for businesses and brands. It allows you to use the artwork as part of your visual identity, including logos, websites, social media, stationery, packaging, and signage.
It does not allow you to print the artwork on products for resale (such as clothing, prints, or accessories). A separate Merchandise Usage Licence is required for that.
Merchandise Usage Licence
This licence is for customers who want to sell products featuring a MiraFeld artwork. This may include approved items such as clothing, prints, accessories, stationery, packaging-based products, or other agreed merchandise. The licence sets out the approved product types, sales channels, and production quantity. If you would also like to use the artwork as part of your business branding or visual identity, branding rights can be requested and added where agreed
Termination and Exit
What happens if things change?
MiraFeld licences include termination and exit terms to protect both the customer and MiraFeld if something changes, or if the artwork is used outside the agreed licence terms.
For an Exclusive Personal Usage Licence, the licence may end if the artwork is used commercially, resold, reproduced for sale, distributed, or used outside the approved personal-use scope. If the licence ends, the customer must stop any unauthorised use, but personal items already created in line with the licence may usually be kept for their original personal purpose.
For an Exclusive Business Usage Licence, the licence may end if the artwork is used outside the approved business branding scope, such as for merchandise, resale, sublicensing, or unauthorised commercial use. If the licence ends for reasons other than breach, the customer may have a short transition period to phase out existing compliant branding materials, but no new use or expansion is allowed during that time.
For a Merchandise Usage Licence, the licence may end if the artwork is used outside the agreed product types, sales channels, or production limit. If the licence ends for reasons other than serious breach, the customer may be allowed a limited sell-through period for existing compliant stock, but no new units may be produced.
For a Non-Exclusive Personal Usage Licence for standard prints, the licence may end if the artwork is copied, reproduced, used commercially, distributed, or used outside personal display purposes. If the licence ends, the customer must stop any unauthorised use and must not make or keep copies of the artwork.
Any changes, upgrades, exit terms, or extended use should be discussed with MiraFeld and confirmed in writing.
How to Choose Your Licence
Choose an Exclusive Personal Usage Licence if the artwork is just for you.
This is the right choice if you are not using the artwork for a business, brand, product, or income-making purpose. For example, choose this licence if you want the design for a tattoo, a personal item, or something for your own home.
Choose an Exclusive Business Usage Licence if the artwork will represent your business, but you are not selling products that feature the artwork.
This is the right choice if you want the artwork to become part of your brand identity, such as a logo, website, packaging, signage, or promotional materials. It is also suitable for branded business items that are used within your business, such as staff shirts or internal materials, provided they are not being sold.
Choose a Merchandise Usage Licence if the artwork will appear on products you plan to sell.
This is the right choice if the artwork itself is part of what gives the product value, such as on clothing, prints, accessories, stationery, or other merchandise. If you also want the artwork to support your wider brand identity, you can request branding rights to be included.
